 Spirits Glasses Just as a wine glass can accentuate the characters of a wine, so can a spirit glass accentuate the characters of a spirit. It seems that all too often spirits drinkers do not accord much importance to the glass they drink from. Common spirit glasses are tumblers, shot glasses or snifters, but there are many other shapes and sizes out there that may be better suited to your beverage of choice. Different spirits are made from different fruits, in different manners and have different attributes to be accentuated. For example, snifters are often popular for dark spirits. It has been shown that these glasses will in most cases give off too many alcoholic fumes due to a large evaporation surface and suppress fruit aromas in favour of more powerful oak aromas. In these cases smaller narrower glasses are in order. Riedel is probably the best known producer of specialty glassware. Through experimentation they design glasses shapes to enhance the liquid they carry.
